BABY SHOWER IDEAS
BIRTH BEADS
We love the idea of birth beads, especially since we live in Africa. Collect a selection of beads for the baby shower and then get everyone to make a wish for the baby and for the mum in labour as they put on the bead. The string can then be made into a necklace which mum can wear during labour (or use as a type of ‘worry bead') and remember all the good wishes from her friends and family.
ADVICE FOR NEW MUMS AND BABY
If you know the name of the baby before birth then this is a nice activity to do for the baby shower.
Write the baby’s name down the left side of the paper and photostat enough for the number of guests to each have one. Guests can then write advice or wishes that start with the letter of the baby’s name. For example if the baby’s name is HUGO you can start with “H”ave lot’s of fun!
BEST BABY SHOWER GIFT: BIO-BABA NAPPIES
One of the best gifts you can get somebody for a baby shower gift is some Bio-Baba nappies! This is a gift that will save parents money and make sure that the new babies’ environmental footprint does not impact adversely on our planet. Go and check out our Specials and we will get the nappies to you asap! Alternatively, send us an email for more information that you can send on to other people to ‘group together’ to get a whole lot of nappies so that you can really get a meaningful gift.
MEMORY BOX OR TIME CAPSULE
This is a fun thing to do and can give the guests some direction before they come to the baby shower…On the invitation ask the guests to bring something to put in a ‘memory box’ or ‘time capsule’ that represents the time and/or place that the baby is born. Guests can record a CD of songs or buy a groovy T-shirt that will be put in a box for the baby to open when they turn 18. This is a really hilarious thing to do as you imagine the child almost 20 years on opening the box!
ADVICE JOURNAL/DIARY
Buy a pretty diary and collect a few colored pens to pass around with the book around and ask guests to write words of wisdom and advice on labour, birth, and any handy child rearing tips for the mum to be.You can also write down the gifts and who gave them for the mum in here so they will always have a record of who was around at this special time.In addition, as a fun thing to do you could have everyone write down their predictions as to date of birth, weight, length, color of hair, sex of baby, etc.
SEVENTH GIFT BABY SHOWER TRADITION
Did you know that there is an old tradition that says that the giver of the seventh present opened by the mommy-to-be will be the next to have a baby?! So keep count and surprise your friend with the happy news!
